May 22nd 2010

Little Scotland  (Acclamation / Belladera) wins the Crabbies "Spiffing" Alcoholic Ginger Beer Maiden Stakes at Chester. She was made to work harder than expected to break her maiden tag. She was highly tried at two for Time Easterby, contesting pattern company on each of her five starts after her debut, and this looked a good opportunity for a confidence boost on her debut for her new yard. Maybe this track wasnt ideal for her but she stayed on strongly to mow down the leader close home, and a more galloping track should suit her in future.

 May 8th 2010

ERADICATE (above) (Montjue / Coyote) wins the Totesport.com Swinton Handicap Hurdle at Haydock . He proved too good for Scottish Champion Hurdle winner Overturn, quickening past the Donald McCain-trained favourite within a matter of strides after the pair jumped the last in the first major prize of the jumps season.Claiming jockey David Bass, who once played drums in a punk band, hailed the 16-1 victory as the biggest of his new career. It was the 7lb claimer's first ride on the Nicky Henderson-trained Eradicate and the promising young jockey successfully turned a 16½-length deficit at Ayr into a two and three-quarter length victory. His dam Coyote has a colt foal by Dalakhani and is covered by Sea The Stars.

MIA`S BOY  (Pivotal / Bint Zamayem) 2nd in the TOTESCOOP6 SPRING TROPHY STAKES (Listed Race) at Haydock .Mia´s Boy, narrowly denied in the Doncaster Mile latest, is always a threat in this type of race and he was well supported at the head of the market, finding himself last and having to be niggled. He eventually got going, coming with a strong run inside the last, but was just given too much to do..

Apr 21th 2010

HUFF AND PUFF (Azamour / Coyote) wins the digibet Median Auction Maiden Stakes at Kempton . He set the standard on his 50-1 fifth of 18 in a 7f Newmarket maiden on his sole run as a juvenile. Being a half brother to smart 1m2f-1m4f Flat winner/useful 2m hurdle winner Eradicate and the very tallented G3 winner and classic placed Oh Goodness Me who was also a winner and placed in 2 Listed placed at 2yrs old.  He is bred to appreciate the step up in trip on his comeback and justified strong support with a tenacious win over a potentially decent type. He still has a bit to learn but has a likeable racingstyle and could prove to be progressive over middle-distances. His half sister by Authorised was sold last Dec as a foal for £170,000. His Dam Coyote has a colt foal by Dalakhani and will this week visit SEE THE STARS

Apr 20th 2010

CURTAINS ( Dubawi / Voile ) (above)Wins the RADIOREVERB  MAIDEN STAKES(Class 5) at Brighton. Trained in Epsom by Simon Dow and ridden by Seb Sanders .She looked to have been found a golden opportunity to get off the mark on her return from a winter break, but had to work a lot harder than her prohibitive odds suggested she would.( 1/5 Fav). She was winning her maiden for the second time at brighton , having been disqualified from her maiden win here last June. She will now head to Epsom for a Listed race.

April 14th 2010

Kyllachy Storm ( Kyllachy / Social Storm ) Wins the Kempton.co.uk Handicap (Class 6) at Kempton. Trained by R Hodges and ridden by George Baker.Sprint races on this track are often won from the front, and  well drawn he made every yard .He ran as though his seasonal return was needed 13 days previously and the switch to front-running tactics with that run under his belt did the trick. He was also able to race from a 7lb lower mark as he had yet to shine on the allweather, although he hasnt had many chances on an artificial surface.

April 05th 2010

OSCAR PAPA (Presenting / Oso Special) wins the Bet totepool On 0800 221 221 Intermediate Open National Hunt Flat Race at Plumpton. He was bred and raised at Crimbourne Stud for his owner Mrs Carrie Zetter-Wells. The well-backed OSCAR PAPA had shown ability on his debut at Folkestone and the well-bred individual was never far away and ran  out a ready winner. He has the size and scope to do well over hurdles and this won´t be the last we hear of him.

BILLY HALLING above (Halling / Sadie Thompson) wins in Capannelle Italy. This is his second win this season and his first in H`cap company over 1800 meters(£7,080).This is the first foal from the Kings Best mare Sadie Thompson who has a yearling by Dylan Thomas and  a lovely filly foal by OASIS DREAM. she has been covered by Medician in 2010.

March 19th 2010

PIGEON ISLAND ( Daylami / Morina) wins the Johnny Henderson Grand Annual Chase Challenge Cup (Handicap) Grade 3 at the Cheltenham Festival. Ridden by Paddy Brennan ( pictured above returning after his victory on the pigeon left , on the right earlier winning the Gold Cup on Imperiel Call from a very game Denman) . The ground was changed to Soft before this race.A typically competitive handicap chase and wide open according to the market, but a race that has a good record for those at or near the head of the market over the years. Four favourites have been successful since 1998 and in that period and only twice has the winner gone off at longer than 8/1.This is a race that has been dominated by those at the bottom of the handicap in the past ten runnings, however, with only the 2007 winner Andreas successful off a mark higher than 134 since1999, and no horse has carried more than 10st 11lb to victory in that time. That sequence continued with a last gasp success for  PIGEON ISLAND on a red-letter day for his trainer and jockey. Held up in the rear, he gradually crept into contention and, after jumping the last in fourth, ran on best of all to hit the front in the last 100yds.Rated in the 140s over hurdles, he was racing off 130 here but had failed to win in seven previous starts over fences and had fallen twice at this track. However, on a day in which connections were inspired, the magic clearly rubbed off and this tough sort proved strongest up the hill.

Mar 13th 2010

MIA`S BOY  (Pivotal / Bint Zamayem) 2nd in the Twilliamhill.com Lady Wulfruna Stakes (Listed Race) at Wolverhampton. returning from more than four months off, he ran a fine Lincoln trial, splitting a couple of race-fit rivals who were fresh from Dubai. It will be a big ask to defy a mark of 106 at Doncaster but he was a close second in a big-field handicap off just a 2lb lower rating when last seen in 2009 and wont be top weight if Expresso Star lines up (which is said to be the plan). He was trimmed by most firms, but 16-1 is still available.

Feb 24th 2010

SINBAD THE SAILOR,( Cape Cross / Sinead ) wins the Bet Multiples - Betdaq Handicap (Class 4) at Lingfield. He was always towards the fore, led early before letting American Spin take over, and found enough when the pair were tackled inside the last by Rose Row to win a shade cosily. Two from two for his current stable, connections are waiting to send him over hurdles in the new season, when decent ground will suit, so these successes on the Flat are a nice bonus. His owner Sir Alex Ferguson (above) must have told his whole team that he was expecting a winner as he was very well backed into 7/4 fav.

Feb 10th 2010

BENARTIC wins the Onibury Maiden Hurdle at Ludlow . He make a few mistakes early on but turned into the straight travelling very well and won with a bit in hand . Hopefully he can now give his owners a day out at Cheltenham in March where he is entered in the 2m5f Nov on the Wednesday of the Festival.

Feb 07th 2010

ERADICATE (Montjue / Coyote) wins the John Smith's Scottish County Handicap Hurdle at Musselburgh. A good quality handicap won by an unexposed sort in ERADICATE. Debuting in a handicap and running for the first time since having a wind operation over the summer, he was keen enough through the early stages, but showed his speed to assert on the flat between the third-last, the bypassed second-last and final flight. He needs decent ground to be seen at his best and a sharp track like this also helps him get home, so Aintree looks likely to suit him better than Cheltenham, although the County Hurdle is apparently the aim

BAHIA BREEZE below with her Nayef colt foal born this morning .The first of 17 mares to foal this year at Crimbourne.

Feb 04th 2010

SINBAD THE SAILOR,( Cape Cross / Sinead ) wins the Enjoy Lucky 7 Group Offer Handicap (Class 6) at Wolverhampton ridden by Matthew Davis and backed from 20/1 to 11/1.He  didn´t seem to get 1m6f when twice tried by previous connections last season, stayed this longer trip extremely well on his first run for George Baker. Although bought to go hurdling ( For his new owner Sir Alex Ferguson ), it seems that the winner will keep to Flat staying handicaps. These aren´t the hardest races to win with a horse who is at the right end of the handicap and there should be at least one more before the handicapper steps in. He won off an 11lb higher mark as a three-year-old.

Jan 24th 2010

BILLY HALLING (Halling / Sadie Thompson) wins in Pisa Italy. This is the first foal from the Kings Best mare Sadie Thompson ,he has a yearling brother by Dylan Thomas . Sadie Thompson is in foal to OASIS DREAM. and will visit Medician in 2010.

Jan 13th 2010

BENARTIC wins the  Freezy Money At victorchandler.com Maiden Open National Hunt Flat Race (Div II) at Southwell. He had been absent since a couple of fair efforts at Fontwell last spring. He was made to work hard for success but may have won with a little bit to spare. He is owned jointly by Sir Eric and Mary-Ann Parker and hopefully he can go on and win his maiden hurdle before a day out at Cheltenham in March.

Jan 06th 2010

BERNINI (Kyllachy / Broken Peace) wins the Yiu Wa Handicap at Happy Valley in Hong Kong. This was  his first win since being sold at the Breeze up sales in Hong Kong for £200,000 in 2007.Purchased from Crimbourne Stud by Larry Stratton on behalf of the Hong Kong Jockey Club at Tattersalls October Part One Yearling sales.Broken peace has a Yearling filly by Singspiel for sale this year. FEN GAMES (Montjue / Hatton Gardens) above   wins the Paddy Fizpatrick Memorial Hurdle at Leopardstown trained by Edward O`Grady and ridden by Andrew McNamara. A third win over hurdles for FEN GAME who came from well off the pace, making good headway from two out and running on well for pressure on the run in having been fourth approaching the final hurdle. Quite well treated by the race conditions, the winner will be going chasing next season but trainer Edward O´Grady intends finding a few more opportunities for him over hurdles.

ROA Council member and senior industry figure, Sir Eric Parker (pictured with Antonia Deuters), has been honored as the first recipient of the Chris Deuters Award in recognition of services to the racing industry, during a special ceremony preceding the ROA AGM lunch in London.

The Award has been established to commemorate the huge contribution to racing made by the late Chris Deuters, a former president of the ROA, Levy Board deputy chairman and long-standing owner-breeder.

Sir Eric Parker, also a former president of the ROA, and owner of Crimbourne Stud in Sussex, has enjoyed a distinguished career in both racing and business, and his tireless work for the racing industry over many years made him a fitting recipient of the inaugural award. The presentation was made by Chris Deuters’ widow, Antonia.

Michael Harris, ROA chief executive, said: “I have now had the privilege of working with Sir Eric Parker for over 10 years on the ROA Council. It is difficult to name anybody who has such an all-round understanding of how British racing works both structurally and commercially.

"Over the years, he has sat on the BHB, the Levy Board and the Tote Board. He is, of course, a past ROA President and continues to make an invaluable contribution at both Council and Executive meetings. He still examines every committee paper with a forensic-like urge to absorb the detail.

"He may still have the ability to put all of us in the shade, and yet he has a lasting popularity and is much-loved throughout racing. Yes, he takes industry business very seriously but his sense of humour is never far away. Nobody could be more deserving than he to receive this initial award and I am sure Chris would have been delighted to know that Sir Eric is its first recipient.”
